Consider supporting our Mobile Thriving Respite on this Day of Giving!
The Mobile Thriving Respite (MTR) works with the street community including those living nomadically, rough sleepers (e.g., sleep outside), and those living in temporary housing (i.e. shelters, couches, cars, abandoned buildings, etc). We get together with folks to foster thriving beyond surviving. While surviving is critical for wellbeing, so too is thriving - the stuff of life that we sometimes take for granted - to talk with friends, laugh together, feel welcomed and safe, be creative, share stories, and have a renewed sense of dignity. Typical event activities at MTRs include card and game playing, listening to music, karaoke, art projects, body movement therapy, reading groups, and films. Thriving respites are mobile to welcome people throughout the city in familiar places where they are most comfortable.
We do respites at the 2nd Avenue Commons, Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, 2 Pittsburgh Park locations, the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh and the First Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh.

This project was launched in January 2019, based on the findings of gathered qualitative data, by Dr. McInerney and Point Park psychology students. Since its inception, the team has offered 50+ thriving respites. MTRs are a true community effort, currently offered through partnerships with the Allegheny County Homeless Advisory Board/Community and Education Committee, Bridge Outreach, the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, the First Presbyterian Church, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, the Mexican War Streets Society, and 2nd Avenue Commons.
